I recently commissioned the musician FractalNotes to compose some background music for the Tela Network Podcast. I was very pleased with the process and the result of his work.

This article outlines that process.

Contact

I contacted FractalNotes to see if he would be interested in working on some background music for my network's podcast. He agreed to have a meeting using Riverside.fm to discuss the details.

You can watch/listen to a recording of that meeting here (in Spanish):

Order Details

Order requests that were discussed in the video meeting above.

  • Background music
    🡢 Style: Calm, peaceful, reassuring.
    🡢 Must be 'loopable'.
  • Introductory 'jingle'
🡢 Must match background music - seamless transition from jingle to music.
  • Deliver 'sketches' to show possible directions music could take. Integrate feedback. Get approval before mastering the audio.
  • Master audio.
  • Deliver files for the jingle and background music.

Delivery Agreement

  • We set a price for commission. This includes the delivery of sketches, integration of feedback, and minor revisions.
  • We set an additional fee per major revision. (Changes of direction late into composition or major reworks)
  • We set a price for audio mastering.

Result

  • FractalNotes delivered three 'sketches'. Each had variations on the jingle and the background music. I selected the aspects I liked most and expressed what I wanted to see changed in the compositions.
  • FractalNotes delivered a version that incorporated my feedback. I requested a few changes and gave the ‘go-ahead’ to move into mastering the composition.
  • FractalNotes delivered the mastered pieces in five files:
  1. Introductory jingle
  2. Background music track 1
  3. Background music track 2
  4. Background music track 1 and 2
  5. Ending jingle (variation on 1)

Note: Background music tracks flow relatively smoothly from the 'Introductory jingle', between each other, and to the 'Ending jingle'.
