Best Vday card… EVER.

Best Valentines Day Card

Best Valentines Day Card

As sick as I was on Valentines Day, I still managed to get out for dinner.  I was tired of being cooped up inside the house, needed to get out for a little bit.  We drove around to numerous restaurants because of the horrible wait times.  Not blaming the restaurants of course… we had nothing reserved, and that’s why we just kept moving.  We ended up eating at Applebees.  Our total wait time was 10 minutes!  Not bad for the busiest dining night of the year.

My new G1 phone, and mobile test

by tela on Feb.03, 2009, under General Blog

I bought a G1 phone a couple days ago and I’m completely fascinated with it. Im even using it to type in my blog right now! The OS is Android, and is based around Open Source programming… those of you who are not computer literate, that means the code is free and out for the public to use for development purposes. Its amazing what is out there in the market already, considering the phone has not even been out for long. Keeping this post short since this is a test to see how this app handles blogging!

The Karate Kid Remake

by tela on Jan.19, 2009, under Movies

The Karate Kid

The Karate Kid

What would this world be like with another Karate Kid movie? I think the Earth would get thrown off it’s axis and completely destroy everything known to mankind. One thing you have to ask the producers is why? The original franchise did well, not because of the story, but because it was a piece of 80’s pop culture icon. I can’t imagine anyone else telling Johnny to sweep the leg. Jaden Smith is to star in the movie… isn’t he a bit too young to be kicking ass? Not only that, but Jackie Chan is to replace Pat Morita in Mr. Miyagi’s role. I am a bit afraid of what’s to come with this movie. I grew up watching The Karate Kid. It’s what made me get a black belt myself. I just think it’s going to be weird when my son Kaiden grows up thinking that Jaden Smith is The Karate Kid. He won’t understand why doing house chores will get you better at fighting. So much for that plan…

Leaving Las Vegas, Hello Chicago

by tela on Dec.19, 2008, under General Blog

Nevada Desert

There was so much excitement before leaving to Las Vegas, Nevada.  We flew out there for Jhonette and Kristian’s Wedding.  It was lot of hassle getting all our luggage packed and making sure we had everything we needed for the baby.  My biggest concern was flying with the baby, and that made the whole ordeal a nightmare.

On the way there, Kaiden cried his eyes out for 3 out of the 4 hours in the air.  I felt so bad for the guy sitting next to me, but he understood the nature of babies.

We landed at 10:30pm and stayed at the Stratosphere the first night we arrived.  After getting the rental car, luggage, and everything else, it was already 3:30am our normal time zone.  All three of us were exhausted… and I slept like a baby.

The next day we drove out to Red Rocks Canyon (pictured above).  It was a beautiful sight to see.  I was still tired from the night before, so we slept in the car about a half hour before going on the scenic drive.  Along the drive were 10 spots to stop and view.  We skipped most of them, but I was able to take a lot of photos.  Later that night we ate dinner with the rest of the family at a Chinese buffett.  Good food, and great fun seeing everyone again.  It was quite an experience to be able to see and hold little Ella again.  She has grown so much!

Adam and Nicol then took us out on the strip to view the watershow at Belagios.  Shane was flying into town, so we all met up with him and ate at In and Out’s fast food joint.  I’m really glad we got to see Shane again.  He’s almost the backbone support for our family.. always reaching a hand out to help with anything.  One of the reasons why I chose him as one of Kaiden’s Godfather.  We all stayed at The Orleans the next three nights.

The wedding was beautiful as can be.  Jhonette and Kristian couldn’t be any happier, I’m so glad everything worked out well that night.

The rest of the week we did a lot of sight seeing and EATING.  After a while I became a little homesick!  I missed Chicago food, and snow, and my computer.  I missed my xbox 360 and all my blu-ray movies.  I missed my family back at home, I missed my dog, and I hated Vegas traffic… every right lane is an exit, so you have to continue shifting left if you want to stay on the same street.  There seemed like so much to do in this city of bright lights, but only very little we could do with our baby.  Shane was nice enough to babysit Kaiden, while Norilyn and I watched Cirque du Soleil Mystere.  In a way I felt sorry for dragging Kaiden out to Vegas.  He did nothing but sleep, get strapped in a car seat, stroller, or high chair.  However, the night before we left, we stayed at the Embassy Suites… and this felt like Home.  They actually had an indoor pool, and that was one of the reasons we stayed there.  I had never seen my son happier in that indoor pool.  He has a thing for water, and loves to splash around.  The sound of his laughter was music to my ears.. I was in Heaven.

The flight back to Chicago was one of the scariest I have ever been on.  Kaiden slept almost the entire way, but the turbulance kept me awake and nervous.  When the plane reached Chicago, the snow storm was so bad there was zero visibility.  I had a feeling the pilot must be flying on radar.  We had to circle Chicago a few times because the runway was not being cleared off in time.  It’s really scary when the pilot announces “Please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for landing”, but then we are still flying 45 minutes later.  About an hour later, after we landed, an applause broke out from all the nervous flyers, including me lol.

The snow storm was heavy and made driving back home seem impossible.  We moved at a pace of 5 miles per hour, but I didn’t mind it.  I was glad to see snow, and to listen to Holiday music in Chicago’s December.

R.I.P. Bill Pike

by tela on Oct.29, 2008, under General Blog

Tonight I said goodbye to an old dear high school friend of mine by the name of Bill Pike.  He passed away on October 26th, 2008.  He was a great kid, always so energized and ready to go.  Some of my greatest memories with him were back in the old days when I used to skate.  We would push ourselves to the limits and I remember he always.. I mean always, got hurt!  He had a big heart, really passionate about the things he loved doing.

During the wake today they had these little books out for us to read that he made as a child.  Most of the words were mispelled and the coloring was all over the place lol.  It was one of the cutest things I’ve seen.  He was quite an author as a child.

It was great to see some old faces that I haven’t seen in a while, but sad that we had to meet at a place like this.  It’s crazy how life gets so busy, we tend to forget where it all goes.

Bill Pike had touched a lot of people in many ways.  I will always remember him as the daring kid with a big heart.  May you rest in Peace, my friend.

Carrots

by tela on Oct.28, 2008, under General Blog

I found out the truth behind Carrots today, and to my surprise, they aren’t as great for your eyes as they seem to be.

The famous Dr. Oz states the carrot rumor was started during the Second World War.  The Nazis realized that the British were getting a lot of lucky shots on their aircraft, and so the British started the rumor that their pilots were being given carrots to improve their eyesight.  Which was Hogwash.  What they really did was discover radar.

All those years of eating carrots…damnit.. and I hated carrots too!

Marley & Me

by tela on Oct.21, 2008, under Movies

I can’t believe it, they are coming out with a Marley & Me movie!  I read the book by John Grogan a while back and it put me to tears.  Makes me think about my own dog Luna and how she is such a good being.  She has a heart bigger than most dogs I know.

One of my favorite quotes from the movie, “Marley taught me about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. He taught me to appreciate the simple things- a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as he grew old and achy, he taught me about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, he taught me about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty”.

Shart

by tela on Oct.07, 2008, under Strange

I think the word Shart is one of the most clever words ever invented.  See below for examples from urbandictionary.com:

1.  Shart
A small, unintended defecation that occurs when one relaxes the anal sphincter to fart (blend of “shit” and “fart”)
I sharted at the party last night and went home pronto to change my clothes.

2.  Shart
When one farts and a little shit comes out.
We gotta go dude.
Why?
It’s an emergency!
What?
I sharted dude.
What’s that?
Sharted!
Huh?
I farted, and a little shit came out!
–ALONG CAME POLLY

3.  Shart
To accidentally shit while trying to push out a fart… in other words.. to gamble and lose.
Tony was at the park and a silent but deadly wound up being a shart.
